Jodo

Introduction

Jodo is the art of the Japanese Jo Staff. Many people, men and women, study Jodo the world over. In Great Britain Jodo is taught under the direction of the British Kendo Association. Kenseikai dojo's are a member of the BKA. Jodo is taught at many of our dojo.

Jodo is the art of fighting a swordsman with a Jo (4ft staff). Students learn Kihon (basic techniques) and paired Kata (pre-determined movements) which they practice to improve their skill.

There is one principle style of Jodo, this is the Shindo Muso Ryu. Within Kenseikai dojo we adopt this system. Also, all students are taught the Seitei Jodo (standard set) of the Zen Nippon Kendo Renmei (All Japan Kendo Federation), which is required within the grading syllabus and also used extensively for competition.
